Internet access in many rural areas of New Zealand is a major problem. With many households further than 5km from the local exchange (the limit of ADSL), their choices are limited.

In early 2007, after being fed up with dialup, and prohibited by the expense and latency of satellite technology, we have set up a local wireless network to deliver high speed wireless internet/broadband to rural residents of South Taranaki. For more info read our page about wireless.

After two years of operation Wireless Coast is now a very reliable service.

Our plans start from $65 per month, and can service most houses situated on Watino Road, Patiki Road, Nopera Road, and along Surf Highway 45 in the Pihama area.

Community Update - 14 Sept 08

After two years of operation we thought we'd complete our third "monthly" update. Set up with the purpose of providing broadband Internet to residents of Pihama, Wireless Coast is now a very reliable service. The Pihama headland, powered entirely with photovoltaic cells (solar power), now has enough storage and generator capacity to see us through the shortest and dullest days of June/July.
